Race in America Forum: “The Drum Major Instinct + The Role of Women in the Civil Rights Movement”

The Johns Hopkins University Forums on Race in America will present a dramatic reading of “The Drum Major Instinct,” featuring actress Tracie Thoms, and a panel discussion on the role of women in the civil rights movement with Edwina Moss, the former assistant to Martin Luther King Jr.

“The Drum Major Instinct” dramatizes King’s final sermon, and will be accompanied by original music and a local gospel choir, Unified Voices.

In addition to Moss, the panel will feature the Rev. Otis Moss Jr.; Rabbi Daniel Burg; and Morgan State University history professor Jewell Debnam. Johns Hopkins history professor Martha Jones will moderate.

The event is free and open to the public and co-sponsored by the HCIE. The event will be held at 7:00 p.m. on April 26, 2018 at the Glass Pavilion at Levering Hall on the Homewood campus of the Johns Hopkins University.
